Centralized Heating Days in Brașov: A Pioneering Initiative for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
During an important period for the transformations of the energy sector, Cogen Romania, in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Romania and the Danish Board of District Heating (DBDH), organized a remarkable event: “Days of Centralized Heating in Brasov”,held on 9 and 10 May 2022. It marked a crucial moment of dialogue and collaboration between energy experts, with an impressive participation of more than 80 specialists, including producers, distributors of thermal energy, representatives of relevant ministries and local authorities.

A Joint Effort for Efficiency and Sustainability
This initiative came in a context where energy efficiency, investments in renewable energy and diversification of energy sources are imperative. In this framework, the central heating sector has been put under the magnifying glass, highlighting the need for an innovative and sustainable approach. Mihai David, President of COGEN Romania, stressed the importance of the moment:
“The international conjuncture requires us to make tough but responsible decisions, thinking in the medium and long term. The Danish model of central heating can be a valuable example for Romania, and Denmark's experience is an important asset in shaping the future of our energy policies.”
The Danish Model: An Example To Follow
Pia Zimmermann from DBDH highlighted the success of the Danish model:
“In Denmark, 65% of households benefit from central heating, and 72% of this comes from renewable sources such as solar, wind, biomass, biogas and geothermal.”
This example demonstrates the potential of an efficient and sustainable system.
A unique opportunity for Romania
The event was a unique opportunity for Romanian companies and decision-makers to learn directly from the Danish experience. E.S. Søren Jensen, Danish Ambassador to Bucharest, expressed his enthusiasm:
“I am delighted to host this event together with our partners from COGEN Romania and DBDH. Improving efficiency and expanding urban warming are essential in the fight against global warming.”
“Days of Centralized Heating in Brasov”it was more than an event - it was an inflection point, a catalyst for change and innovation in the Romanian energy sector. By combining Danish experience with local vision and resources, Romania can take important steps towards a more efficient and sustainable energy future.
